Cliff Jumping.
Summer 2014

I gingerly dipped my toes in the freezing water, not wanting to get in. Mum and my sister called encouragement from further up the beach. My dad was already a little way in the water. He turned around and motioned for me to follow him. I took a deep breath and doggy paddled out to meet him. When I got there I clung to his back like a chipmunk. He started out into the deeper water and the current got stronger. Dad’s feet left the bottom and we were gliding down the river at tremendous speed. Paddling forward, we reached the slippery rocks that marked the bottom of the cliff.

I scrabbled over the rocks, anxious to get out of the water. Dad helped me up. The stone felt rough under my bare feet. I started up the cliff. It was overgrown with weeds and plants and rocks jutted out in awkward places. We finally reached the top. Dad was ready to go. He told me he would jump first and I would follow him.

I watched him spiral down towards the strangely calm water and land with a huge splash. I gulped and stared down at the water. I didn’t want to jump. But I had to. Mum and my sister shouted comforting words. I took a deep breath and jumped. I hung, suspended in the air before plummeting down towards the river. I splashed into the water and felt the cold blanket close over my head. I popped up laughing. I felt like I wanted to carry on doing this for the whole day. It was the best fun I had had in my life.

Scene Writing Term 4

I turn around and in front of my eyes I see a spectacular sight. An isolated scene meets my eyes. White, frosty tree branches reach above the water like icy fingers scratching the cold, crisp air. The freezing water has small ripples on the surface and the small banks are covered in powdery snow. Two tiny ducks glide around under the wooden bridge, which rises majestically above the water. The shimmery water reflects all above it. Snow is heavy on the trees and their branches, drooping down.  A small lamp post stands alone near the bridge. Light blue sky peeks between the trees. A dreamy, serene, snowy scene.

Success Criteria
  • Has strong adjectives
  • Different sentence beginnings
  • Different sentence lengths
  • A simile and/or alliteration
  • Has an introduction, body and conclusion
  • Thoughtful word choices
  • Your own goal

Spain- Pals and Barcelona.

Well, we knew one thing for sure. This was another scorching hot country. We wandered about the airport a bit before getting in a car and driving in the direction of pals. Pals is a small town near Barcelona. We are going to be staying in it for a few days before heading on towards Barcelona.

We eventually arrive at a beach in a little town called Callela. This is the best beach I have ever been to! It had crystal clear waters and it was so nice to escape the heat by diving in. We spent a few hours here before zooming off again.

The days in Pals were spent mainly at the beach. We went to loads of beaches and had fun at mostly all of them. At one of them, I slipped and gashed my toe on the rocks. That wasn't very nice. Slap bang in the middle of Pals is a small Medieval village. We walked around it, admiring all the old buildings and shops. Then we sat down at a small café to have a drink. While we were sitting there, a small band consisting of A Trumpeter, Guitarist and a cellist started to set up next to the Café. You would think this was just an ordinary busking event but no! I think they were professionals because they were selling their CDs and they sounded really good.

Anyway, the time came to move on to Barcelona. When we arrived at our hotel, there was an amazing view of the Torre Agbar. It is a huge tower, that is a bit like a long dome. It is humongous! We went for a walk that night to see the Sagrada Familia. Now, one very famous person in Barcelona is Antoni Gaudi. He has built the Sagrada Familia, the Torre Agbar and many more! The Sagrada Familia is a colossal cathedral. This is one of the most famous buildings because Gaudi died in the middle of building it. The people in Barcelona are trying to finish it. It is very hard though because while they are building the rest, bits of it need repairing for it is 100 years old. By the time we set off again, it was dark and we could see the Torre Agbar from miles away. Why? Because it was lit up with powerful red blue and yellow lights. We only stayed in Barcelona for three days and we all felt that it Wasn't enough. Advice for going to Barcelona: Wear a T-shirt and shorts and stay for at least a week!

Emotive Writing

This week we had to write about a piece of music. We had to write down how it made us feel and what it reminded us of. This is my story!

My heart is pumping as I sit down in the soft velvet seat. There are almost no children in the Theater. My dress is starting to become strangely uncomfortable. The conductor walks onto the stage. My skin is prickling horribly. Suddenly, the music starts up. My skin feels like it is covered by a chilly robe. I am swept away, lost in my own world as the music echoes around me. My thoughts sway in time to the beautiful, grand beat. I am transfixed. My eyes are glued to the scene in front of me. I won’t look away, I can’t! My stomach feels as though those musical instruments are really inside it, all pumping out the rhythm that makes me feel weird. My head pounds as the last note rings out. I am swept back to the world of humans and a hot stuffy Theater. I clap until my hands hurt. That music was breathtaking!

I was going to the orchestra with my Aunt, her friend and my sister. It was my first time and I was really nervous. When I heard the music I thought it was beautiful! There were basically no children there and it was nearly all adults. My sister got a bit tired after a while. I, However, loved it! I have loved music all my life and will never stop loving it. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I will never forget it!

Thank You Letters!

Dear Simon⛺,
I hope you really enjoyed camp, I really did. One thing I am very thankful for is that you took a week off your work to be with us. That was very nice of you! I really enjoyed the meals you and the other dads cooked. They were delicious! Thank you for helping the Candy Buddies with their dinner. We almost forgot some things but you reminded us and that made our dish one of the best! We ended up coming second equal in Master Chef. Also I would like to thank you for coming with the Candy Buddies on the night detectives. You helped us when you told us how to remember the sentence. When you played the Animal Game it was really fun. You said some really funny jokes as well! My favorite part was when we went on the rock hopping walk. I really liked climbing the rocks. That was really fun! I also liked it when we ran all the way to Michael Noonan's grave. I was running really fast and I found it hard to stop! My most challenging part was the last cave. I found it hard to hold onto the rope and I was slipping down quite fast. But you were helping us down and I did it! You made a big difference to camp. I hope you had a great time!

Yours Sincerely,

Malena

Dear Mike,

I hope you did really enjoyed camp, I did. One of my reasons that I enjoyed it was because of you! You made camp really fun for me by cracking jokes all the time. Thank you so much for serving dinner and breakfast! Those meals were some of the best I have ever had.

My favorite part of camp was when we had Master Chef. You did a great job of coming round and giving us tips.

The time I was challenged was the last cave. I was a bit scared because my head torch was dim and the cave was quite dark. But you were encouraging us and I made it to the end.

When we walked to those falls, I found it very interesting when you did a handstand and walked on your hands. You are very talented! My favorite thing you did was remembering everyone's animal names and numbers. That took a lot of brains! Also I would like to thank you for drawing that awesome page in the book. It looked amazing!  I hope you had a great time and really enjoyed camp too.

Yours sincerely,
Malena, Puma, 19.

Thank You!

My Scene Writing!

Waterfall and Lagoon Scene Writing!
This week In writing I did scene writing. We had to pick a scene and describe it using strong adjectives. I hope you like it!

Schhhhhhh… I turn around trying to figure out what that sound is. I stop and stare in surprise. In front of me is the most magical scene I have ever seen in my life! Branches and vines stretch , entwined over me to make a sort of doorway, inviting me to gaze. Lush leaves sprout from the twigs above me. Cream colored blossoms are draped over everywhere they can fit. Ferns and other plants squeeze through the gaps in the stones at the bottom of the plant doorway. But the most stunning piece of the picture is the lagoon. A shimmery, glistening, lagoon! Mossy, slippery rocks marked the edge of it. The water at the side of it is an emerald colour, changing slowly to aqua as you look further into the mysterious depths of the misty water. On the other side of the small lake there is a steep cliff face. It is not rocky though. It is covered in moss and little plants. Trickling down it is a small waterfall! It is glowing like a candle. It looks like a jewel that has been melted and is dribbling down a cliff. Ivy covers a big, flat rock next to it, to make it look like a small island. Everything before me is perfect. The water is calm, the plants are gently swaying in the breeze and the waterfall is sparkling in the sun. I stand there, grasped in it’s beauty, unable to pull myself away. I blink. Suddenly, it is gone, like a wisp of smoke vanishing into the air. I am staring at a wall. A wall of plants in fact. I smile to myself. No one will ever see what I’ve seen. No one will ever know!

Super hero story part 2

The story of moon part 2!

Augh… Jesse Norton groaned. She blinked her eyes groggily. Pitch black. Her skin felt cold and was completely covered in something soft. Where was she? “Oh no…” she realized, “I’m under water!” She thrashed about wildly in panic.
“I’m going to die!” she wailed, but it came out as a bubbly speech. She couldn't hold out much longer. She opened her mouth and breathed in, expecting to feel water rushing into her lungs. Instead, her lungs were filled with cold air.  Oxygen! She felt so relieved she didn't notice she was breathing under water. She saw a bluish glow in the distance. She swam towards it, wondering if she could get out of this watery prison.

She squinted through the gloom. People! They were staring at her! She swam faster, determined to get to them before they swam away. She was just about to reach them when BANG! Her face smashed into something. Uh oh. Glass. The people were still staring at her, laughing now. She was in a glass tank, probably in an aquarium.
“Why can't they see  that I’m  human?” she said, backing away from the glass wall separating her and the onlookers. Her sad reflection stared mournfully back at her. She had no hair at all. Her arms were slimy pieces of seaweed and her legs had morphed together, like a tail. No wonder those people thought she was some sort of sea creature. She could hardly contain her misery. Down she sank, until she bumped the bottom and a cloud of sand rose up.

Suddenly , a voice came over a loudspeaker.
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the show! Here we have this amazing creature to show you today. Above it , is a huge electronic wave. Scientists say if you get hit by that wave you will not survive. This creature is so weird, we thought we would try it out on this thing. We shall just make sure the wave is on by putting a crab in front of it.” Jesse listened in amazement. She swam as fast as she could, towards the top of the huge tank. A crab dangled from a string, just above her head. At the other end of the tank, a colossal wave raced towards the dangling lump of shell. A shiver of wonder and horror passed over her body. The wave was above her now. It hovered in the most menacing way. A scream escaped from Jesse’s mouth as she ducked under the gloomy water.

CRASH! The wave frothed and fizzed around her. She bobbed up on the surface. The crab still hung directly above her. Suddenly, it dropped. Before she had time to move out of the way, it landed on her arm and nipped her left hand. “Aauugh” she howled in agony. Her body started to change. Her hair grew long and wavy. Her legs and arms returned to normal and her left hand sported a shell encrusted glove. Her body became encased in a long, sea blue dress and a shimmery, flowing cape hung off her back. The crab attached itself to her head.

They floated down to the glass. A voice in Jesse’s head told her
“You are a superhero now. Use your powers.” Slowly she lifted her left hand. She pointed it at the people who were now staring at her, paralysed with surprise and fear. Woosh! A stream of water shot from her hand. Her hand glowed a light blue. The glass in front of her shattered. People fled screaming in fear. A wave of water swept out taking her with it. Surprisingly, instead of falling into the water and being tossed about, she rode the wave like she was on her surfboard back at the beach. She felt a pang of sadness. Where was her family? She came to a stop in the middle of a large room. Using the water from her hand as a jet, she blasted towards the roof. The crab on her head shot something from it’s nippers. It hit the roof and the tin melted away, forming a hole. She shot through the whole and was overcome by a wave of sleepiness. She floated down to the tin roof and fell asleep.

She woke up to find herself staring into the soft glow of something in the sky. She could feel the moon’s pull throughout her body. Every superhero needs a name, and she was in the light of one now.  She felt the sudden urge to speak.

“My name is… Moon!

The story of Moon!

                 The story of Moon.
part 1.

It was just a normal day at the beach for Jesse Norton. Swimming, sunbathing, sandcastle making with her baby sister. In the sweltering afternoon heat, Jesse felt as though she was melting.
“I’m just going for another swim, mum!” she called to her mother, who was trying to have a snooze but not succeeding, as her baby sister, Sophie was trying to climb all over the rug.
“OK.” came the muffled voice of her mother.

Jesse ran down the beach towards the glistening water. As she splashed into the sea, the cool waves lapped at her feet. Some  familiar Orange-brown locks swung in the distance. It was her best friend Lily Hatton!
“Lily!” Jesse yelled. The head turned and Jesse found herself looking into a pair of brown eyes.
“Hi, girl! I didn’t expect you to be  down here!” Lily exclaimed, surprised. “Have you got your board? Let’s go!”

The 2 girls had a great time in the sea, catching quite a few waves.
“Hey, watch this!” Jesse yelled at her friend, who was in the shallow waters, getting off her board. A huge wave was coming towards Jesse and she got ready to catch it. Suddenly she felt a pull behind her. The tide was too strong! She dug her feet into the sand, but it was too late. Her last word was “Help!” before the massive wave crashed over her, and she was swept back. Just as she was about to fill her lungs with water she bobbed up on the surface and found herself spinning around wildly. “I’m in a whirlpool” she realized. She thrashed about to try and free herself from the strong folds of water that were enveloping her. Please don’t let me die she thought as she was sucked down into the black hole beneath her feet.
To be continued...

Coming soon! The story of Moon part 2.
